Stilwell, Oklahoma is where opportunities grow! In the 1890s, agriculture gave Stilwell the foundation for a strong local economy.
In the 1930s, strawberries became a major crop here, with over 2,000 acres cultivated. Stilwell Kiwanis Club organized an annual Strawberry Festival in 1948, and it succeeded beyond all expectations. Each year many thousands of folks come here to enjoy it. In 1949, the State of Oklahoma designated Stilwell "Strawberry Capital of the World."
Banks and manufacturing helped diversify our economy. Now our major employers include Cherokee Nation Industries, Facet Manufacturing, Tyson Foods, and Schwan's. Today the Adair County Historical & Genealogical Association have created a museum in the historic train depot where our group holds its meetings.
